At
MCC, we believe that each church has the freedom and responsibility
to make its own decisions about many "religious" things,
using the Spirit and the Word of God for direction.
Below are some of the reasons that we have decided to take Holy
Communion every Sunday...
<1>
We love to remember what Jesus has done
for us! In
1 Corinthians 11:23-26, we see that the purpose of taking holy
communion is to remember that Jesus died for us and to give
a public testimony about Him together. It is a celebration of
our salvation and our Savior!
<2>
It helps us to love Jesus more and follow
him better throughout the week.
Holy communion is a great encouragement to us because it helps
us focus on Jesus and take some time each week to examine our
own lives. We are encouraged to give our WHOLE
heart to Him, because it reminds us that he gave up his life
for us. (See 1 Corinthians 11:27-30.)
<3>
The Bible gives examples of Christians
meeting together often (weekly, and even daily) to remember
Jesus in this way. Since
we want to be a church that follows the Bible, we take these
examples seriously. (See Acts 2:42-47, 20:7.)
We
practice "open communion" at MCC, which means that
we do not make "rules" about who can and who cannot
take communion at our church. The Lord knows your heart, and
we don't want to stop anyone from remembering Him. If you are
not a follower of Jesus, we encourage you to accept his gift
of salvation today. If you are in Christ, we invite you to remember
Him together with us!
